Our
Purpose
The
Snake River Mission Area is a mission unit of the Synod of the
Pacific through which the Presbyteries of Boise, Eastern Oregon
and Kendall share certain important functions. These functions
are coordinated through a Coordinating Committee composed of elected
representatives of each Presbytery. The mission unit is staffed
by a General Presbyter/Associate Synod Executive, a Senior Administrative
Assistant, a Resource Coordinator and a Bookkeeper.
Functions
The
duties of the Coordinating Committee of the three presbyteries
of the SRMA will continue to be:
Structure
The Coordinating Committee consists of nine members, three elected
from each presbytery to serve concurrent three year terms. The
first council members were elected in 2001 and will serve until
2004, when presbyteries will elect again. The General Presbyter
will serve as staff to the Committee. Presbytery Staff will be
available to advise and assist the Committee. There will be no
ex officio members of the Committee.
Style
The new design is meant to reflect two main ideas. First, it is
intended to be efficient, to accomplish work that is helpful for
congregations and presbyteries, and meaningful for participants.
Second, the design reflects a desire to see the Coordinating Committee
as a cooperative venture of the three presbyteries, and not just
an extension of the synod.
Renewed Connections
The unique role of the Coordinating Committee is to connect the
Presbyteries of Boise, Eastern Oregon, and Kendall with each other
and with the Synod of the Pacific. Members of the Coordinating
Committee serve as liaisons to the Presbytery Councils, and also
to the Personnel Committee of the Synod of the Pacific. The Coordinating
Committee will equip Synod Commissioners so that they are equipped
to represent the concerns of the whole mission area to the Synod
of the Pacific.
